OBJECTIFY MEN: Michael Fassbender & Michael Shannon

Oh man. I love Michaels. I used to obsess over the fact that all the male leads on Boardwalk Empire other than Steve Buscemi were named Michael, each scrumptious in their own way: giant Frankenstein (FUCKENSTEIN?) man beast Michael Shannon; eternally smoking pillow lipped petulant beauty Michael Pitt; force of nature Michael K Williams; and underrated, but just absolutely delightfully full of intrigue and depth Michael Stuhlbarg. MICHAELS! After Boardwalk Empire systematically removed all the Michaels from my world, I was bereft, lost in a Michael-free sea. But this Holiday Award Season has been good to me, in terms of Michaels! Michael Shannon graces us with his presence in a supporting role in this month’s Freeheld, and Celebrated Penis Haver Michael Fassbender shows us the outline of Known Penis in Macbeth. I don’t know if he shows it in Jobs. I’m not watching that movie. Here are two just absolutely delightful shoots of each Michael: Fassy by Bruce Weber. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I’M THE LUCKIEST GIRL ALIVE! And Michael Shannon by David Cronenberg’s fantastically talented daughter Caitlin. Oh! I AM the luckiest girl alive! An heir to creepydom shoots M.Shan & known-beautiful-man photographer shoots Fassy. Bless these Holy Michaels and keep them safe, oh Lord of Sex.

LesBeehive Throwback Thursday – Tilda Swinton as David Bowie by Craig McDean for Vogue Italia, February 2003

It’s a well known fact that Tilda Swinton and David Bowie are Intergalactic Sisters from an Alien Mister, Star Brothers from a Mars Mother, etc. But did you know that in 2003 Tilda Swinton starred in an epically beautiful Bowie inspired photo shoot for Vogue Italia? Craig McDean shot our Alien God in a series of gender skewering, suit and smoking porn shots that reference Bowie’s iconic Life on Mars? & Thin White Duke looks. When David Bowie saw the photos, he said to stylist Edward Enninful, “When did I do this shoot?” (full quote below) CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? ISN’T THAT GLORIOUS? David Bowie thought pictures of Tilda Swinton were him! She Twin Tricked him! Hah! Good goof, Tilda!

I’ve also included one of my favourite series of Tilda photos. I only have them as tiny test shots and I know nothing about them except that they’re glorious and I have the folder they’re in labelled as “Bowie Like”. My brain is fun. So is Tilda! So is Bowie! I LOVE THE GALAXY!

“When David Bowie saw my book, he could not believe it when he saw the [Bowie-inspired 2003 Vogue Italia ] pictures of Tilda. He thought it was him. He was like, ‘When did I do this shoot?’ He was floored. Even he couldn’t believe how much she looked like him.”

Recent Anne Hathaway Editorials

Is there any treat more scrumptious than a good Anne Hathaway editorial? Annie wandered out of the spotlight a couple years ago after the entire world, as a collective, decided they were tired of sincerity as far as the eye could see. Bunch of cynical jerks! She’s slowly returning to the public eye, and these lovely photo shoots are a delightful reminder that she’s a force, and of the length of her hair. Cool! Anne thrills in a sumptuous black and white shoot for InStyle by Michelangelo Di Battista. This is the cover. WHY, INSTYLE? It’s like a joke. Their covers are almost 100% terrible, while their cover shoots inside are almost 100% gorgeous. It’s so confounding. I guess they’re really married to that instantly recognizable InStyle look, but it looks like crap! I don’t think I’ve ever even bought an InStyle because I don’t want that cover mingling with my beautiful Vogue and Vanity Fair and Love covers. No! Get your shit together InStyle! Refinery 29 features a Guy Aroch shoot with Annie, and it’s great! Fun and frisky couture! The layout of the editorial on the site was crap though. STOP USING GIFS AS ONE OF THE IMAGES, MAGAZINE WEBSITES! Just cool it and display your photos in a clean, classic, easy to load way. GIFs are for capturing hilarious moments from television, not making your website look like an Interactive Magazine From the FuTuRe. I’m being really negative. I’ll say only good things about Jem Mitchell’s photos of Anne for the October issue of Glamour UK – clean, fresh, love the dreamy creamy pink filter. Just gorgeous. Proud of you Jem! And, as always, I’m eternally proud of you, Annie! And I, for one, never wanted you to go away. Stay with us forever! It’s ok to like things and giggle a lot!

Marion Cotillard by Ryan McGinley for Porter #11, Winter 2015

Marion Cotillard is a vision. She resonates such vulnerability and depth in every role. Ooh, except in The Dark Knight Rises. What even was that performance? She’s such a subtle, nuanced actress, but in The Dark Knight Rises, she was terrible, just awful. Her death (2012 SPOILER ALERT) made me laugh. I love a good lol-WHAT? laugh, but not in a movie I’m emotionally invested in! Not in a movie starring Tom Hardy’s voice/biceps! No! Ooh! But that scene where she’s lovingly tending to Bane & fixing his breathe-right-strip & he has tears welling up in his eyes. GORGEOUS! Ok! I forgive you Marion! This Holiday Award Season, Cotillard stars alongside Michael Fassbender in Macbeth and it’s going to be beautiful brunette Shakespearean porn! This editorial, shot by Ryan McGinley for Porter is such a whimsey wonderland, featuring Marion spinning in fringe and frolicking in lavender! All I’ve ever wanted to do is frolic in lavender with Marion Cotillard!

Beyoncé by Ryan McGinley for The Beat #16, 2015

October 20th, 2015|Categories: Celebrity Editorials & Photo Shoots, Music|Tags: , , , |

There will never be a day where Beyoncé’s body doesn’t make me at least attempt to swallow my whole fist. HOW IS SHE EVEN REAL? ANSWER: SHE IS NOT. Right now there are rumours flying again about her real age, and to that I say, “How do we measure earth time on an otherworldly creature?” Do we REALLY know the actual ages of Tilda Swinton or Tom Hardy? No, of course we don’t. Queens and Kings are eternal. I suppose we could study fancy science and go on an expedition for ancient time-telling machines (like Swatch Watches), but do we really care? No. We do not. Partially why we don’t care is because women need to stop feeling shame for their age and feeling they have to say they’re 3 or 8 or 400 years younger than they actually are. It doesn’t matter. So. This shoot. I can’t say I’m especially into it. I don’t like the way the American flag looks, even though I was obsessed with Betsy Ross as a child and lost my virginity to a girl in an American flag bikini, and what’s with the rooster? Is it Yoncé’s new pet? What’s its name? Did it wander onto the set & it just felt right to accompany Bey in some of the shots? We don’t know. We may never. That shot on the bike is darling though, and Beyoncé’s torso wrapped in a pastel rainbow one piece has become my REASON FOR LIFE. So, all in all, not bad!
