London Fashion Week S/S 2016 – Ashish and Philipp Plein

London Fashion Week is, for me, the most underwhelming of all the fashion weeks.  I know that there are some strong, big names that show collections, but because the bland sameness of Burberry and the like do little for me, there is very little that registers as new and exciting.   Two brands who I always can count on showing something wearable, daring and fun are Ashish and Philipp Plein.  Ashish is responsible for those rainbow sequined ripped jeans that were so popular last year as well as helping to make the creeper shoe popular again.  There is always a positivity to the creativeness at Ashish, and embracing diversity and uniqueness with a joyful openness.  This season was no different, blurring gender norms and literally covering the models in multicolored confetti, making the show feel like being at an awesome birthday party.  Philipp Plein is a weakness of mine – I know that it’s a little one note, but as a recovering goth, I respond to the punky couture-ness of it all.

LFW Fall 2015 – Goth Glamour at Giles and Gareth Pugh

February 23rd, 2015|Categories: Fashion Designers, Runway|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

Alteration in a headline!  You’re welcome!  Okay, I know that we’re all still high from the fact that Cate Blanchett wore a Galliano designed gown to the Oscars last night, but in case that wasn’t a big enough fashion endorphin rush for you, the Giles Fall 2015 show today was Victorian couture at its best.  From the high ruffled necklines, the bows, the black velvet, the bowers of funereal flowers on the runway,  the gorgeous coats and gothic graphic dresses this was like a beautiful dark dream.  Add on to that a parade of some of the industry’s best models – Jessica Stam, Lily Donaldson, Aymeline Valade,  Andreja Pejic, and Anna Cleveland spinning in a beautiful structural dress to close the show.  Yesterday Gareth Pugh did goth revolution in a way only he could, putting bold red crosses on the models’ faces, wrapping them in bustiers like armor, dresses like shields and a bare chested woman waving a red flag like victory to close the show.

In honor of the Oscars today, here’s Marchesa’s Notte label’s Fall collection, just released yesterday and bound to be on some of the famous ladies tonight.

LFW Spring 2015 – Marchesa, Vivienne Westwood, Tom Ford, Giles

Four big names in London fashion have shown some beautiful collections over the first 2 days of London Fashion Week. These are pieces for vastly varied styles – from the floral paradise of Marchesa, the skewered tailoring of Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label, the slinky, long sexiness of Tom Ford and the print magic of Giles.

Marchesa Spring 2015
Fake flowers can be a tricky trim on clothing. Even the highest quality of cloth flowers can look tacky. This Marchesa collection may have over done it on a few gowns, but the overall use of vines and blossoms make this a very Spring-y collection.

Vivienne Westwood Red Label Spring 2015
When she goes with her strengths – Victorian tailoring skewered in a deliciously punk way – Vivienne Westwood shines. Making it look like a 3 year old drew on all the models faces, however, is a distraction from the great pieces on the runway.

Tom Ford Spring 2015
You can always depend on Tom Ford for some seriously sexy pieces and this collection does not disappoint. Cut outs, sheer, pretty pasties, these are pieces for the bold.

Giles Spring 2015
You can tell that Giles Deacon, the designer behind the Giles label, is currently dating and dressing Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie. This is a collection full of bold animal print and long, long lines. His greatest strength, though, still lies in the cut out patterns in his dresses. They are unique and eye catching while still being delicate and pretty.

London Fashion Week Day 5 – Meadham Kirchhoff RTW Spring 2014

One of my favorite collections of the all the Spring 2014 fashion weeks last fall was Meadham Kirchhoff. Full of pinafores and bloomers and eyelet and over the knee stockings and fire engine red hair and ringlets and collared dresses! So many things I love in one collection.
