At last, it’s time for the bold originality from two brands that never disappoint.   Comme’s designer Rei Kawakubo is the definition of original.  She takes ever convention about fashion, every cliche, every expectation and obliterates it.  Completely dismissing things like references or influences or call back, she creates structural pieces of wearable art that are gorgeous in their inscrutability.  This collection is a tight sixteen looks, that defy definition.  Yohji Yamamoto is much the same.  These Victorian goth punk looks, complete with over sized black parasols, hoop skirts, loose bustiers and petticoats, ending with a Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice red wedding dress.

LesBeehive Throwback Thursday – Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice (1988) & Edward Scissorhands (1990)

This week’s LesBeehive Throwback Thursday is a belated celebration of Tim Burton’s birthday August 25th and the news of the Beetlejuice sequel! Also, time to start celebrating Spooky Season! Truly this is the most wonderful time of the year!

Two of Tim Burton’s most iconic films are also Halloween staples – Beetlejuice is a perfect hilarious fright and presents Burton’s Batman Michael Keaton as a perpetually delighted but frustrated, flustering monster. Edward Scissorhands combines all of Johnny Depp’s sweetness and melancholy and begins the magic Burton & Depp have been making for nearly 25 years. Both films star Winona Ryder as the wide eyed petulant princess that every girl aspired to be from around 1988-1998. I’m still currently working on trying to be as Winona as possible every day!

Love this gritty macabre photo shoot that still manages to celebrate whimsy featuring Tim Burton with models Malgosia Bela, Evelina Mametova and Sophie Srej dressed in bewitching costumes, as well as Burton’s famous film characters.
