New Mad Men Cast Portraits

There are some juggernaut dramas all coming back at the same time in the next two months, namely Game of Thrones, Penny Dreadful, Orphan Black and the last episodes of Mad Men.  The anticipation of these final hours of one of the best modern television shows is high, especially answering the question of how will it end.  The cast portraits for the last half of the seventh season have these characters coming to the end of the 60s, with the woman in a mix of early hippie glam and Victorian via the 70s.   The cast portraits from THR made me realize yet again how much I’m going to miss these beautiful, beautiful faces.

Let’s take a little nerd break and look at some of the new images coming from Entertainment Weekly‘s 30 page spread about the upcoming season of Game of Thrones. New cast portraits show Arya’s gonna be femmed up this season, plus a look at some of the new characters in Dorne, mainly the Sand Snakes, played by Keisha Castle-Hughes, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers and Jessica Henwick.

Penny Dreadful Season 2 Posters

Penny Dreadful was one of my favourite new series last year (alongside Fargo and True Detective). It’s spooky, stylish, and really well acted. It’s one of those shows that could survive full on its camp (The Walking Dead, American Horror Story), but it elevates itself beyond Horror Soap Opera, and it’s terribly thrilling. Of course Eva Green is a wonder, but surprise performances by Timothy Dalton and Josh Hartnett, plus outstanding actors playing characters from literary history like Frankenstein, his monster, and Dorian Gray, make the series smart, beautiful, and masterfully macabre.

It’s also worth noting to anyone who hasn’t seen the show yet, that there is a moment in an episode where I shouted, “KISS HIM!” AND IT WORKED! WORTH WATCHING FOR THAT SCENE ALONE! My only disappointment is that it airs in the summer, and not in the fall when the weather matches the mood. But all the more reason to watch it all over again after the finale!

Season two of Penny Dreadful premieres Sunday, May 3rd on Showtime.
