I’m not going to talk or even post pictures from this ugly, boring, sad-ass collection. I am, however, going to rant like a crazy person about the fantastic bit of PR that happened in the middle of the runway which was infinitely more exciting that the pieces Karl marched about on it. Karl Lagerfeld’s past muses gathered around Chanel roulette tables to wear bespoke couture and gamble without care like the rich people they are. The group included Rita Ora, Lily Collins, Vanessa Paradis and her daughter Lily Rose Depp (who at 16 isn’t legally old enough to gamble), models Lara Stone, Stella Tennant, Alice Dellal and Jamie Bochert, various males that I assume are famous in some way but I don’t care because men all look the same to me, and Julianne Moore and Kristen Stewart, who played with a lipstick like a cigarette, pulled out Julianne Moore’s chair for her and then escorted her out like the chivalrous lesbian she is. Little styling touches – putting KStew in a velvet suit, a princess tiara on Lily Rose Depp, Vanessa Paradis in golden silk lounge wear, Jamie Bochert in vampire floating black chiffon – sold this little tableau, where everyone interacted only with each other and ignored the audience, giving the whole thing a voyeuristic thrill appropriate to any celebrity sighting.
Here’s how much I love Angelina Jolie – while I was going through my 10,000+ picture collection I have on my computer of her selecting my favorites for this post celebrating her 40th birthday today, I almost started crying because I love her so much. I am not alone in this level of worshipful adoration of the model turned actress turned director, many other women, especially those who came of age in the 90’s, see her as an icon, inspiring us all to live honestly and never be ashamed and to be kind to the world around you even if that world hasn’t been kind to you. Angelina has been through many different transformations in her life, each one a guide post for young women to show you how to be all things that you want, when you want.

Lily-Rose Depp is the 15 year old daughter of Johnny Depp and his former wife, French model and singer Vanessa Paradis. She’s recently gotten on the radar due to her so-on-trend-it-hurts Instagram where she’s doing the 90s redux as perfectly as only a child of two icons from the decade could do. Last month she attended a special Chanel event to much acclaim from the fashion industry, and in her first fashion editorial, she shows that she’s already perfectly at ease in front of the camera and posed to do big things.

Last night was like a flashback to our hard drives from 2002 with some old favorites like Salma Hayek, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kate Hudson and Naomi Watts, plus some of our new favorites like Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o and Lana Del Rey. Though the overall look was kinda dullsville, there were a few that managed to take a risk and thusly stood out in the parade of pastel column dresses. Amy Adams was in Versace, Naomi Watts in Gucci, Diane Kruger – Emilia Wickstead, Emily Blunt – Michael Kors, Tina Fey – Antonio Berardi, Amy Poehler – Stella McCartney, Jessica Chastain – Atelier Versace, Julianne Moore – Givenchy, Ruth Wilson – Prada and Kate Hudson in Versace.
American photographer Annie Leibovitz has been a prolific artist since the 1970s, where she first came into public consciousness with her iconic photography for Rolling Stone magazine. Her use of bold colours and unposed subjects have made her one of our generation’s best portrait photographers – best exampled by her most famous photo, that of John Lennon and Yoko Ono taken just days before his death. She has photographed everyone from the Queen of England to victims of domestic abuse to Hillary Clinton to countless actors, artists, musicians and political figures. These are a selection of some of my favorites of her photographs.
