Mob City (formerly titled La Noir & Lost Angels) is a new series created by Frank Darabont (The Walking Dead), who also wrote and directed the pilot. It’s based on the book “L.A. Noir” by John Buntin. Set in 1940s Los Angeles, it stars Jon Bernthal (Shane, The Walking Dead) as a police officer caught inside a conflict between the police chief played by Neal McDonough (Robert Quarles, Justified) and the mobster Mickey Cohen, played by Jeremy Luke. Jeffrey DeMunn, who has worked with Darabont many times (The Walking Dead; The Mist; The Green Mile; The Shawshank Redemption), also stars.
The show is much anticipated, we’ve been waiting over a year for its arrival, and the trailer is fantastic! It’s like a dark gory promise of a Weegee photo come to life. Mob City premieres on TNT December 4th.
On a personal note: SHANE! Everyone who knows me knows that two of my biggest losses of the 2011-12 TV season were Shane on The Walking Dead and Jimmy Darmody on Boardwalk Empire. I miss Shane’s dark dangerous alpha sex and I miss Jimmy’s sweet pouty lips and ability to turn a cigarette into a sexual object. Now Frank Darabont went and made all my dreams come true by putting Jon Bernthal in gorgeous suits and fetishistically filming him smoking. When we watched the trailer and Bernthal exhaled that breath of smoke and it spread and drifted around his beautiful profile, Su turned to me and said, “Are you ok?” I AM NOW! EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE JUST FINE! Thank you gods of fuck! You delivered me my greatest wish! Now put Michael Pitt in some beautiful period drama so I can stare at him again!
